Long Covid - Sue
CASE STUDY / Long Covid
Symptoms: Fatigue, anxiety, OCD.
Sue described always having a degree of anxiety, but after catching COVID in December 2021, she felt unable to shake a feeling of incredible fatigue, combined with incredible anxiety and OCD. She was assessed at Gray Matters two months later, when these changes failed to subside.
Sue’s initial assessment showed significant slowing in the prefrontal lobes reflecting her deep feeling of fatigue and difficulty motivating herself. After 30 sessions of neurofeedback, Sue’s prefrontal lobes were working more normally, and she was able to return to work.
But it was Sue’s EEG connectivity that was most informative. EEG connectivity shows how the brain is functioning as a networked organ, with billions of neurons and trillions of connections forming the most complex system we know. Pre-treatment, Sue’s brain showed significant abnormalities in connectivity, indicated by both blue and red lines. Post treatment there are far fewer lines indicating differences in functional connectivity, confirming her sense of restored function.
