Concussion - Nancy
CASE STUDY / Concussion
Symptoms: anxiety, depression and memory.
Although most of the concussions we see are from sports, vehicle accidents are the source of many EEG studies into the effect of mTBI on EEG, and a common cause of post-concussion syndrome.
Three years before coming to Gray Matters, Nancy was involved in a significant head-on car accident. She experienced serious concussion symptoms which didn’t recede with time, leaving her unable to work and suffering from uncharacteristic anxiety, depression and memory issues.
Nancy was assessed in October 2021 with advanced, SW LORETA qEEG brain mapping, At the time, she was still unable to work. Her mapping showed significant cortical slowing (indicating reduced function) in brain areas responsible for working memory and executive function. Her brain connectivity reflected her functional issues, with a significant deficit in connectivity to the left prefrontal lobe.
Nancy was reassessed after 19 neurofeedback sessions, in March 2022. The cortical slowing evident in her initial assessment had resolved, and her brain connectivity was vastly improved. Three months after treatment at Gray Matters, and three years’ post-injury, Nancy returned to work.
