Anxiety - Kathy
CASE STUDY / Anxiety
Symptoms: Social anxiety, school withdrawal, chest pains, weight loss.
At 17 years old, Kathy’s symptoms of anxiety were both psychological and physical. After the Covid-19 pandemic, Kathy’s social anxiety worsened. While her friends felt confined and frustrated by remote learning, Kathy loved staying at home. When the time finally came to return to school, Kathy’s previously mild social anxiety was amplified a thousandfold. Every morning she felt a tightness in her chest and a shortness of breath. She also lost her appetite and was losing weight.
Kathy came to Gray Matters for a qEEG evaluation, which clearly showed the over-aroused brain that is typical of anxiety.
Kathy had 40 sessions of neurofeedback, after which she was reassessed. The over-arousal seen in her initial mapping had almost completely disappeared, and Kathy felt much better. She was able to attend school with less anxiety and continues to do well, both academically and socially.
