About Gray Matters
OUR MISSION: To bring advances in neuroscience and brain imaging into everyday treatment. We use the most advanced technology, producing real-time, 3-dimensional brain imaging and that's what makes us DIFFERENT.
Anthony is a family therapist who came up with the idea after his own child was diagnosed and medicated for ADHD. After watching his child struggle with medication side-effects, including reduced appetite, difficulty sleeping and night terrors, he became committed to finding a better way to diagnose and treat mental health disorders, and to integrate modern neuroscience into practical treatment.
Drawing on his experience with EEG in the 1980’s, Anthony hypothesized the idea of linking brain activity to a reward – of teaching children to concentrate and self-regulate, instead of medicating them. After discovering that the technique existed (albeit in its infancy), he formed Gray Matters, joining other clinicians to help develop the approach and bring it to a wider audience.
Gray Matters began using the biofeedback of real-time brain activity to improve function, and was one of the earliest adopters of qEEG brain mapping (quantitative electroencephalography), measuring brain activity to make diagnosis less subjective and more reliable.
Gray Matters has continued to lead the field, using the most sophisticated, evidence-based techniques, while emphasizing quality and individual care at every step. It is this commitment to process, as well as technology, that has attracted the best clinicians to join Gray Matters, and for us to be a sought-after partner in research.
We have recorded tens of thousands of qEEG brain maps, covering a wide array of issues. We are constantly collaborating with therapists, doctors, psychiatrists and neurologists, and we are involved in multiple research studies.
Clinicians at Gray Matters present at the very highest level, to other clinicians and forensic experts for the Court. Our clinicians continue to work with other leaders in the field and publish research to shape the future.
We feel privileged to work in an extraordinary field, but remain therapists at heart, connecting with people and committed to improving lives.
