We Treat:
Autism is a complex disorder that alters the way people experience the world, communicate, and interact with others. It describes a wide range of differences that can be subtle and mild (and often not recognized until later), or more significant and apparent early on.
Typically, children with Autism have difficulties with social and emotional interaction, struggle with change and transitions, intense sensitivities to sounds, tastes and textures, and delayed or uneven speech development. These differences often lead to additional diagnoses such as ADHD and anxiety.
There is no “cure” for autism. At Gray Matters, we recognize our Greenwich, CT patients' strengths and weaknesses, seeking to improve only the issues that are problems while respecting what makes everyone special and unique. Using highly advanced brain imaging, we can see the differences that impact speech, sensory processing, and both social and emotional function. We then use highly advanced neurofeedback (called SW LORETA neurofeedback), to train these areas to improve.
Gray Matters has been improving the lives of people diagnosed with Autism in Greenwich, CT since 2008, people of all ages and with all levels of severity. While we’re always careful to manage expectations, we’ve found that when the severity of the symptoms are reduced (such as anxiety, or sensory issues), incremental improvements can be life changing.
Just as each person with Autism is unique, there is no “one size fits all” approach with neurofeedback. Careful qEEG brain mapping and thoughtful analysis lead to highly individualized neurofeedback protocols, based on the connection between each person’s difficulties and their unique brain function. It is this level of specificity that separates both our treatment, and our results.
Gray Matters is not only committed to the treatment of Autism, also to researching promising new treatments. Gray Matters was part of a small national team of clinicians and researchers testing a new treatment called Acoustical Neuromodulation, using qEEG (among other instruments) to measure the treatment effect. Early results showed considerable promise, and Gray Matters was proud to be part of this ground-breaking team.
