Long Covid - Sami
CASE STUDY / Long Covid
Symptoms: Brain fog, difficulties with executive function, memory and word finding.
Sami tested positive for Covid twice – the first time in February 2020, the second in November 2021. Like many people with symptoms of long Covid, Sami reported symptoms of brain fog, issues with memory and executive function, and a difficulty with word finding.
Sami’s initial assessment showed reduced activity in the prefrontal lobes (involved in attention and executive function), and in the left temporal especially in an area call Broca’s area, responsible for word finding. After 25 sessions of SW LORETA neurofeedback, Sami felt considerably better. Her reassessment confirmed the improvement in her function, with a significant normalization of EEG power.
The improvement in Sami’s brain connectivity was dramatic (brain connectivity is considered a better indicator of brain function than EEG power). EEG connectivity shows how the brain is functioning as a networked organ, with billions of neurons and trillions of connections, forming the most complex system we know of. Pre-treatment, Sami’s brain showed significant abnormalities in connectivity, indicated by both blue and red lines. Post treatment, her brain connectivity was essentially normal, confirming her feeling of recovery.
